YOU CAN DO THIS!
And how do I know? Besides having had my own personal breastfeeding issues, I’ve helped over 600 families in the Bay Area with theirs. Welcome! My name is Ellen H. Schwerin, and I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), the gold standard in advanced practice lactation care. I have always loved helping women when they need it the most in a calm and non-judgmental way, and am an LGBTQA ally.
How did I come to be an IBCLC? I loved being a volunteer health educator in my 20’s & 30’s. Then, when my son was born, an IBCLC helped us tremendously, which allowed me to reach my personal breastfeeding goals. Unfortunately, a couple of months after my son weaned, I found a lump and received a diagnosis of breast cancer. After extensive treatment and a complete recovery, I decided that I would transition away from my career in breast oncology research and focus on my love of one-to-one health education and helping new families and babies. And I’ve never looked back!
I have a degree in Human Biology from Stanford University and a Master of Public Health in Maternal and Child Health from UC-Berkeley. My lactation education includes graduating from the UC-San Diego Lactation Consultant Program and a clinical internship with the Kaiser Walnut Creek Lactation Clinic, and I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.
As Happy Milk Lactation Support, I teach classes and meet families in their homes in Berkeley, Oakland, Emeryville, Albany, Orinda, Lafayette, Walnut Creek, San Leandro, Castro Valley, and San Francisco. I’m also in-network with AETNA insurance (which gives 6 or more free home visits to their PPO members). If you feel we’d be a good fit, please contact me to discuss your needs. I am here to help you and happy to do so!
